SDCC Exclusive: Jessica Green Discusses Season 2 Hopes For ‘The Librarians: The Next Chapter’
Jessica Green made her San Diego Comic Con debut this past weekend. The actress was at the annual comic convention to promote the new season of The Librarians: The Next Chapter. BB, and fellow press, had the wonderful opportunity to chat with Jessica about the new season ahead of the show’s panel.
On being the only Australian in a cast filled mostly of actors from the UK: “It’s been a lot of fun. I was really lucky because I’d worked with Dean Devlin [showrunner] before, and I also knew many of the crew in Serbia from my previous show. Getting to come back to Belgrade with such an amazing team has been really special. I feel very, very blessed.”
On how the diversity of the cast builds to a stronger team: “Everyone brings something unique to the group, and that’s what makes the team work. It’s fun seeing how each character contributes something different when they’re faced with these magical challenges.”
On how the cast developed their chemistry: “We genuinely get along, and I think that comes across on screen. We also love doing scenes together. It’d be pretty miserable if we didn’t like each other, especially since we’re all living away from home while filming. Thankfully, that’s definitely not the case.”
On whether there will be a lot bloopers for fans to see this season: “Oh, there are an insane number of them. We laugh constantly. Once one person starts laughing, everyone else goes with them. I’m also guilty of missing my marks from time to time! The others love reminding me about that. We’ll finish a scene, and then realize we’ve all drifted away from where we were supposed to be standing. It definitely keeps everyone entertained.”
On whether the cast spent much time together outside of work: “Absolutely. Since I’d already spent several years filming in Belgrade, I knew a lot of the best places around the city. It was really nice being able to show everyone the restaurants, festivals, and places I loved. We spent a lot of time together outside of filming, and Callum’s annual Eurovision party became one of the highlights. It really helped that we all enjoyed each other’s company.”
On whether working on the show changed how she think about mythology and folklore: “Every script introduces something new, so you’re constantly learning. It’s fun discovering the stories and legends that inspire each episode.”
On what magical artifact from the series she would choose: “Definitely the Magic Door. Being able to teleport anywhere instantly would make life so much easier. I think that would be the ultimate magical ability.”
On whether there is a myth or legend she’d love to see explored in a future episode: “I’d love to see Jack and the Beanstalk. Imagine the set designers having to build a giant magical beanstalk—that would be incredible!”
On whether she improvised during season 2: “Callum [McGowan] definitely improvised the most! He loves to keep scenes going long after they’ve technically finished. It keeps everyone on their toes. The writers also gave us room to experiment, which made the performances feel really natural and fun.”
On whether she would pick the Magic Door as her favorite magical artifact: “Absolutely. If I could travel anywhere in an instant, I’d never have to worry about long flights again.”
On what mythical creature would she would most like to see appear on the show: “Pegasus. I think that would make for an amazing adventure.”
On who she would cast as a dream guest star: “Ryan Gosling.”
On what book she’d recommend to readers visiting the Library: “Goosebumps. I loved those books growing up, and they’ll always have a special place on my reading list.”
Season two of The Librarians: The Next Chapter premieres on TNT on August 2.
