Gracie Cochrane Steps Away from Playing Ginny Weasley in HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Series

The first season of HBO’s Harry Potter series hasn’t even premiered yet and we have already learned of a recasting. The actress who is set to play Ginny Weasley in the first season, Gracie Cochrane, will not return for the second season.

In a joint statement for Cochrane and her family, “Due to unforeseen circumstances Gracie has made the challenging decision to step away from her role as Ginny Weasley in the HBO ‘Harry Potter’ series after Season 1. Her time as part of the ‘Harry Potter’ world has been truly wonderful, and she is deeply grateful to Lucy Bevan and the entire production team for creating such an unforgettable experience. Gracie is very excited about the opportunities her future holds.”

HBO followed up with their own statement saying, “We support Gracie Cochrane and her family’s decision not to return for the next season of HBO’s Harry Potter series, and we are grateful for her work on season one of the show. We wish Gracie and her family the best.”

Thankfully, Ginny only plays a minor part in the first book, but she does play a major part in the next book, Chamber of Secrets. I hate to see her leave the show, but thankfully it happened now and not further down the road.
