Netflix Announces More Casting For ‘The 99’ers’

Emilia Jones and Alessandro Nivola have been cast in the upcoming The 99’ers film for Netflix. The pair join previously announced Zoey Deutch and Emily Bader in this new film based on the book. The Girls of Summer: The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team and How It Changed the World, by Jeré Longman.

In the upcoming film, Emilia will play midfielder and captain, Julie Foudy, while Nivola will play the USWNT team coach, Tony DiCicco. The 99’ers picks up with the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team in 1999, as they defy the odds to emerge victorious in a dramatic penalty kick shootout against China in the World Cup final, under the scorching summer sun and in a stadium filled with 93,000 fans. This monumental win captivated millions worldwide and forever altered the course of women’s sports.

The cast gets more and more interesting. I also love that they are looking for Elite players in the New Jersey area for filming, but can’t they just ask the ladies of Gotham FC to step in for the scenes?
