Paul Mescal Covers ‘British GQ’

Paul Mescal is on the cover of the British GQ. The actor is on the cover of the magazine’s upcoming February issue.
In the issue, Mescal talks his new film, Hamnet, playing William Shakespeare, not being up for global press tours, big studios relying on social media followers to cast their movies, filming the new Beatles biopic, and so much more. Highlights can be found below.
On not being up for global press tours: “It is a first-world problem: I got to lead a massive studio film and one that I’m incredibly proud of, but I just fundamentally don’t have the make-up to deal with a global press tour. I felt like I got boring questions from people for three weeks.”
On big studios casting movies based on social media followers: “It’s boring for studios to be reliant on that. We call out this absence of movie stars, and it’s like, Yeah, of course there’s an absence: we see everybody the whole fucking time! The whole point of Paul Newman being so great is that he’d rock up to the Venice Festival looking unbelievably chic and cool. And then he would disappear.”
