Miley Cyrus Covers ‘CR Fashion Book’

Miley Cyrus is on the cover of CR Fashion Book. The singer is on the cover of the fashion bible’s newest issue, which was styled by Carine Roitfeld and shot by Nick Knight.

For the issue, Cyrus sat down with Pamela Anderson to talk gardening, not understanding technology, rebuilding her Malibu home, the idea of a showgirl, directing, writing, working together, and so much more. Highlights can be found below.

On her idea of a showgirl: “When I did this shoot for CR, it was before the idea of a showgirl became cultural in the way it is now. There’s a real conversation happening—and a new breath being exhaled—into what a showgirl is. Real kind of showgirlship is more than bedazzled bras, feathers, and makeup. Actually, The Last Showgirl has become my airplane movie. I’ll watch a movie until the death of it. It used to be Drop Dead Gorgeous—every flight I took, I’d watch it. And now it’s The Last Showgirl, because it’s just so comforting to me. What I love about that film is that I’ve experienced that “show must go on” moment countless times—whether it was losing someone I loved on the day of a performance or going through a heartbreaking separation from somebody that I loved.

There have been so many times when I got up and did my job, and the audience had no idea what I was going through. I love the toughness and the strength of a showgirl, because it takes such a tight upper lip to do that. I also resonate with the part of the film where things change, you outgrow them, and they move on without you—that terror. I remember moments like that: the final episode of Hannah Montana, or the last record on a contract with a label I’d been with for years. Generations, show business, industries—they all change so much, and they move forward with or without us. That’s why the film pulls on my heartstrings in such a different way. I’ve been behind the curtain for so long, and I really felt Shelly’s question of, ‘Who am I behind all of this?’ I’m grateful that I’ve been able to figure that out, even while still being an active performer. I feel like I really know who I am as a person.”

On potentially starring in a Pamela Anderson directed movie: “I’ll be your directing guinea pig, I would have a blast doing that. You can do it—I know you could. You have the vision and you have the identity. My favorite directors, Sofia [Coppola] being one of them, have such a strong sense of identity. With her films, you just know—it starts tonally, even down to the font and the text. Now—because I’m producer, director, all the things in my life—I’m going to be calling you about this French film.”
