Glen Powell Covers The Hollywood Reporter with Eli Manning
Glen Powell is on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter. The actor is joined on the August 20th cover by former NFL star, Eli Manning.
The duo is on the cover promoting their new Hulu sports comedy, Chad Powers. Based off an ESPN skit Manning took part in, “When bad behavior nukes hotshot QB Russ Holliday’s college career, he disguises himself and walks onto a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers.”
In the issue, the two talk making the series with Manning’s brother, Peyton, prepping for the show, attempting to work with other colleges’ athletic departments, and so much more. Highlights can be found below.
Powell on the idea behind his new series, Chad Powers: “What made Eli’s thing so magical is the viewer knew Eli Manning was under [the disguise]. So, let’s use the lie at the center of this thing, which creates inherent fun conflict over the course of the series. We were like, ‘OK, we’re going to Tootsie this thing. Let’s Mrs. Doubtfire it, and let’s see how far we can take this lie.’”
Powell on if directing is in his future: “That’s something I’d love to do. But right now, I’m getting to be in film school, I’m getting to work with [Richard] Linklater and Lee Isaac Chung and J.J. Abrams and Edgar Wright. I’m working with my heroes. And what’s been really, really fun is — every set I’m on, I pick up things. Whenever that time comes, I’ll be much more prepared.”
