REVIEW: ‘King of the Hill Takes Center Stage at Hulu’s SDCC Activation

With King of the Hill set to make it’s triumphant return this coming August on Hulu, the network opted for a changeup to their annual San Diego Comic Con offsite. Instead of their full animation domination taking up the lawn behind the convention center, they decided to turn their sole focus to the series, and BeautifulBallad got the chance to check it out.
This year’s offsite, aptly called, “You’re Invited to BBQ with Hulu’s King of the Hill“, is absolutely filled to the brim with fun and swag. When attendees enter the space, they immediately get the opportunity to choose between playing a boot ring toss game or a life-size game of Pong. Both games come with their own swag, so try your hand at both if you get the chance.
Further into the offsite, attendees will come across some fun photo opportunities even rookie King of the Hill fans will recognize. They will also get the chance to customize their own trucker hat. Our money is on this stop being the longest wait out of all the activities, but the staff is knowledgeable and tries to keep the line moving.
Towards the back of the offsite is where attendees will be able to grab a can of Alamo Beer, which is actually just a can of water, to keep them hydrated in the San Diego sun. And depending on the time of day you go, you can either top the visit off with a breakfast burrito in the morning or a BBQ sandwich in the afternoon.
If you have been to any of Hulu’s Animayhem offsites in the past years, this one should feel fairly familiar. The only true difference is that this year’s offsite focuses on only one of the network’s animated series, instead of the whole lineup. With that tidbit aside, this offsite is an enjoyable time, and I do have to admit, the breakfast burrito and custom hat made the visit that much better.
