REVIEW: Get Claimed By A God or Goddess at the ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ SDCC Offsite

Embark on an epic journey as Disney+ brings its first Percy Jackson and the Olympians activation to San Diego Comic-Con. The activation takes you into the Sea of Monsters, where you will have the chance to see through the mist, discover which gods you’ve been claimed by, and trade exclusive drachma for god-inspired swag from mythological beings.

This offsite first starts with a quiz that must be taken before entering the activation. The goal, to find out which God or Goddess stakes a claim on you. After you complete the quiz, you are given a drachma, and then enter the offsite, Monster Donut. From there, you find yourself in front of a another tablet, taking a photo, and discovering which God or Goddess you were lucky enough to be claimed by.

When your God or Goddess is revealed, you finally enter The Monster Donut, where fans can take some fun photos, and take part in a little bit of an Olympians history lesson. But that’s not all, something is stirring outside the shop, and the staff on hand is there to help keep you safe and dry. Once the short show wraps, you will get the chance to redeem your drachma on the way out of the offsite, and depending the type of drachma you carry, determines the prize you get.

Overall, this was the most immersive of the Disney offsites we visited during the Convention. The activation is very short, so it may not be worth standing in a long line for. However, the cast fully lean into their roles while also keeping attendees engaged at all times. It’s never fully explained how  a God or Goddess claiming you connects to the goodies at the end, but use the claiming as a chance to test the actor behind the deli counter’s god knowledge. I do believe that the claiming could be left out all together, and the experience would still be quite good, but at least you get a photo out of it.

Grade: B+
