REVIEW: FX’s ‘Alien: Earth’ Activation Lacks Narrative

Much like Hulu’s King of the Hill offsite, FX opted to focus on one sole project for its San Diego Comic-Con activation this year instead of a whole array like previous years. The lucky series was FX’s Alien: Earth, and BeautifulBallad got the opportunity to checkout the “Wreckage” of the USCSS Maginot.

It’s hard to appropriately describe the happenings inside this offsite because it felt incomplete. What was suppose to feel like a “wreckage”, felt more like a maze of tunnels and hay covered open spaces filled with boxes that either had aliens in it or outside of it. If there was suppose to be a story, press didn’t get it. The staff wasn’t exactly great either at informing attendees on what they were seeing or what they were supposed to be experiencing. I believe this has more to do with our visit being the first of the entire weekend, and would be intrigued to know what the experience is like as the convention progresses.

I do have to admit, the final few moments of the offsite is where all the action resides. From an exclusive pin, fun photo opportunities, and so much more, these last few moments showcased what hopefully the rest of the activation would develop into as the days progressed.
