REVIEW: Fonda, Moreno, Field, & Tomlin Bring Home The Win For 80 For Brady

80 For Brady is the true story of four long-time friends and Patriot fans as they journey to the Super Bowl to watch their favorite player, Tom Brady, and team compete for the Championship. With hijinks galore, secrets unearthed, and relationships put to the test, this film is a charming romp from start to finish.
Directed by Kyle Marvin and produced by Tom Brady, the film is one outlandish moment after another, leaving one wondering how much actually happened and how much has been embellished for the film. The four leads (Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Sally Field, and Rita Moreno) find themselves in so many wild, almost unbelievable moments that by the end of the film you can only laugh at the encounters. No matter how absurd some scenes may be, the film works. It’s fun, engaging, and to the point. Barely over an hour and a half, the film moves quick enough that viewers won’t have time to wonder how these four managed to land at an exclusive VIP Super Bowl party or if Tomlin’s Lou actually got to speak to Tom Brady.
The screenplay isn’t anything to write home about, but the chemistry between the four leads is what carries the film. Fonda, Moreno, Field, and Tomlin are crowd-pleasers with impeccable comedic timing and well-earned knowledge of how to capture an audiences’ attention. The chemistry shared between all four ladies is effortless, it’s obvious they had such fun filming together.
A variety of different celebrities and athletes make cameos throughout the film, including a number of Brady’s former New England Patriot teammates, and along with Guy Fieri, Billy Porter, and Ron Funches, they make for a quirky time.
80 for Brady doesn’t try to be anything more than what it is, a cute comedy about a wonderful friendship between dear friends. There are a few missed passes here and there, but in the end, it is the camaraderie between our leading ladies that will drive a win home for viewers.
