EXCLUSIVE: Jennifer Coolidge and Steve Coulter Talk Playing a Married Couple in Shotgun Wedding

Jennifer Coolidge and Steve Coulter play the parents to Josh Duhamel’s Tom in the new rom com, Shotgun Wedding. We got the chance to hear from the on screen couple regarding playing a married couple, making the movie, and so much more.

What was it like playing a married couple in the movie?
Coulter: “We got a along pretty good. Well, I liked her before. I’d never met her before, but I already loved her work, and she just radiates. It’s that thing, that magical little thing, that it’s talent mixed with uniqueness, and that I met her and none of that was true. No, we just got along.”

Coolidge: “Steve is great. He’s unusual. Steve does appreciate comedy girls. He married a comedian, so he likes, some guys don’t like comedy girls. For whatever reason, they want you to be more serious or whatever. But Steve’s into it. So that’s nice when you work with an actor that sort of wants to banter with you. And he outdoes me for sure.”

Were there any scenes in the movie, while filming, where you couldn’t keep a straight face?
Coolidge: “I just remember there was a lot of jokes when we were, I heard a lot of jokes when we were in the pool.”

Coulter: “There was a lot of pool jokes.”

Coolidge: “There were a lot of pool jokes because we were in the pool for a long time and didn’t seem like the water was … They were changing the water as much as we would like as … So there was a lot of great jokes about that from everybody.

Did you enjoy making the movie?
Coolidge: “Everyone got along. There was not one weird, not one thing. I guess I owe it all to Jason [Moore] and who he chose.”

Coolidge you’ve been in some pretty great rom coms, does this one rank up there with the Legally Blondes?
Coolidge: “I think it does. I’ve always liked that sort of high drama. I really like the combination of comedy and actual scary stuff happening at the same time. That is really my favorite kind of movie and haven’t been in a lot of those with that combo. I think it has potential. And the chemistry, especially the chemistry between Jennifer [Lopez] and Josh [Duhamel], they are so good together on screen and they’re so good. They’re so entertaining and so sexy. The two of them extremely sexy people with high stakes.”

Shotgun Wedding will be released to Prime Video on January 27.
