REVIEW: Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger Brings The Mayhem With Two-Hour Season Two Premiere

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger kicks off season 2 tonight, April 4, with a two-hour special premiere event and fans will not be disappointed. The premiere, which is actually two individual episodes, could not be more different, but transition so well into one another it is hardly noticeable.
The first episode of the two-hour premiere sets the foundation for the season. Fans are quickly caught up on what Tyrone (Aubrey Joseph), Tandy (Olivia Holt), and Detective Brigid O’Reilly (Emma Lahana) have dealt with since the season one finale. Tandy is back to ballet and attending domestic violence meetings with her mom and Tyrone is dealing with the fact that he is now a wanted man. O’Reilly seems to be struggling the most since her dip in the swamp and as the episode progresses, fans see she is not coping with her PTSD in the safest of ways. The episode does a wonderful job of showing the personal demons each of our characters are trying to handle and, once again, proves that tackling problems together is better than attempting it alone.
The second episode is a return to action. The gangs of New Orleans are at war and women are disappearing left and right, Tandy and Tyrone work to put the pieces of the puzzle together to find that something nefarious is happening deep in the underbelly of the city. On top of all that, Detective O’Reilly decides to unleash a little Mayhem on the town, as well, which will leave many hyped for more.
Holt and Joseph once again prove they were excellently cast Tandy and Tyrone. The pair could not be more different in their approach to their characters, but when they are together the chemistry is undeniable. There is a spark that ignites whenever their characters are together that truly showcases their talent. Lahana returns as Detective O’Reilly/Mayhem and is pushed to her limits as an actress throughout both episodes. The task of taking on two very different characters, both suffering from distinct demons, isn’t an easy task but one Lahana does with no trouble at all. It will be a joy to watch her journey as the season progresses.
The premiere is exactly what viewers want, albeit a little slow at parts. It creates the hook to draw fans in and leaves them with just enough of a taste to come back wanting more.
