BB Exclusive: Jordan Buhat Talks What’s to Come for Vivek on grown-ish

On if his relationship with his Dad plays a big part in who Vivek is:
“Absolutely, Vivek is all about potential and achieving your best. In that first episode, you think that in his childhood he didn’t get to achieve his best and he thought his father didn’t get to do the same thing. That really flushes out and shows that Vivek is driven for what he wants and he’ll do a lot of things to get it.”

On if we will meet Vivek’s dad:

“I hope so! There are slight hints here and there. I believe he is in the season, so, I think there’ll be a chance. It’s a really big driving force for Vivek. I mean, when you’re a child, your childhood drives where you want to go as an adult, so it is very forefront in Vivek’s mind.”

On if we will learn more about the secondary characters as the season progresses:
“That’s the greatest thing about this show. It always has to come back to a certain plot point, right? Yara’s (Shahidi) character, Zoey is certainly at the center of a lot of them, but as we get going Vivek, Aaron, and Anna, everyone has their own stores tell. There are definitely episodes where that’s very prominent. We get to experience each character in the show. It’s not all about one person. It’s about all of us.”

On what Vivek and Zoey’s relationship will be like this season:
“It’s really hard to tell with Vivek character where he’s going to go, where he’s going to end up. He likes to keep his options open, like I said, he’s very driven. So with that being said, he explores all options. With Vivek and Zoey, it’s a really special relationship because they really push each other to be their best selves and they don’t get blinded. Some people who fall in love and they’re like, ‘Oh, I’m just doing this for love’, but they’re actually pushing each other because they can see the potential in each other to be better.”

On if there is anything he is excited for fans to see from his character this season:
“Like I said, Vivek is very impulsive, very driven, very goal oriented and he sets his sights on something in the season and he doesn’t let it go. He’s very endearing person, he’s also very smart, very driven and he is going to go for some things. Some things he’s going to get and some he’s not. And it’s very exciting to see his arch throughout the season.”

On if there are any topics you would love to see the show cover in the future:
“The first time you realize exactly what you want to do for the rest of your life because you can have all these thoughts when you’re a kid, ‘I want to be a lawyer. I want to be a firefighter’ Sometimes they don’t stick. And when you get to college, you really are just trying to find out what your life is going to be. You got to be grown-ish. You’ve got to be grown right now and pick what you’re going do for the rest of your life. A lot of the characters go through that and I hope that people watching do the same thing. And those going through the same thing, maybe it helps.”
