INTERVIEW: Meghann Fahy Talks What’s to Come on The Bold Type w/ BB

Last night, July 11, The Bold Type held its series premiere on Freeform and in the two hour premiere, many changes occured for Meghann Fahy’s Sutton.

Meghann previewed what is to come for Sutton, the girls’ friendship and so much more with us. You can check out our interview below.

On not taking the ad sales job, but choosing to follow her dream to be in fashion:
“You’ll see that she persists. It is not something that comes easily and she doesn’t have a lot of experience in fashion. That’s hard because a lot of other people do, but she is very passionate, which I think is the biggest tool that will serve her in this first season.”

On if Lauren will hinder Sutton from following her dream:
“Lauren is sort of like, ‘Make up your mind. I don’t have time for this’, the way she treats Sutton in that episode (1×02) makes it even harder for her to speak up and say, ‘I know I just asked you for this, but now I’m changing my mind again’. Again it is not enough to stop Sutton, which I think is really interesting to see.”

On taking this risk:
“I think it is really hard for her. She comes from a family where she just had a mom, who can’t even pay her own bills. She has learned to be responsible at a very young age. She’s carried a lot of the weight of that so it’s even harder for her to say, ‘I’m going to step outside of my comfort zone and what’s safe and try something’. If it doesn’t work out with the fashion thing she’s lost her job. She gets replaced. It’s a big risk for her. One that isn’t quite as prevalent of a risk for Kat or Jane.”

On if the girls’ friendship will be tested this season:
“Friendships are constantly being tested, but the other thing we show is honesty between these girls. They call each other out on their stuff. They are really there to make each other better and stronger and hold each other accountable. We will definitely see some of that and I think that is just as important.”
