EXCLUSIVE: Shadowhunters’ Isaiah Mustafa Talks What’s to Come for Luke this Season

Last night, June 5, Freeform aired the 2B premiere of Shadowhunters and what an episode it was! The episode opened up a lot of questions for the audience and, thankfully, we got to chat with Isaiah Mustafa about some of those questions.

Due to spoilers, we have placed the entire interview under the jump. We suggest you watch the episode, if you haven’t yet, before reading.

What did everyone think of the episode last night? Did it bring about as many questions for you as it did for us?!

On if Luke will be torn because of the disbanding of his pact and his suspicious new partner:
“He’s always torn between something. I think he has been torn ever since he became a werewolf, Ever since him and Valentine split. I think he has been torn between what to do and what not to do. Now, the stakes are raised and Jocelyn is no longer around, he has this responsibility to look after Clary, but he also has the responsibility of his pact, which he never really wanted to be a pact leader and now he is. Yes, he is definitely torn.

On if we will get a confrontation between Valentine and Luke in this second half:

“I think you’re definitely going to see tensions come to a head between Valentine and Luke. They’ve been building for one and a half seasons, so you are definitely going to see where that goes. How far it goes, I don’t know if there will ever be a conclusion or an end to it, but it definitely is going to come to a point where they have words.”

On what Luke’s main focus is this season:
“His main focus is to try and find a cohesiveness between all the downworlders, warlocks, vampires, werewolves, he just wants to keep the peace. But he knows the clave and he know who he is dealing with and it is not always the easiest thing to try and interject and tell them, “Hey, listen on behalf of the downworlders we should do A or B”. They know better.”
