Exclusive: Emma Ishta and Kyle Harris Talk What’s To Come This Season on Stitchers

Last night, June 5, Stitchers premiered its third season on Freeform. The premiere was a long time coming for fans and was filled with a ton of twists and turns, which, we hope, left you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

We sat down with Emma Ishta and Kyle Harris to talk about last night’s premiere and how what happened in the episode will affect the show going forward.

Due to spoilers, we have placed the full interview under the jump. If you have not seen the episode, get to watching it and then let us know what you thought!

On Kirsten’s relationship with Blair after the season premiere:
Emma: “At the end of the episode, Kirsten uses the leverage she found in his son’s memory to restructure the Stitchers program in the way she wants it to be. She kind of takes him out a little bit. From what we’ve seen so far, he kind of does [go down] and it [the season] is more about Maggie stepping up to the plate and with that more responsibility for Cameron.”

On Cameron’s promotion:
Kyle: “When Maggie offers him the position of lab director, he’s not as excited as you would think he would be because all he knows and all he feels confident in is running the stitch. Everything outside of that with the politics of the lab and the rundown of the cases, he could care less about that. For him, it is getting Kirsten in and out of there safely, that’s his job. With the new promotion comes a lot of added stress, which is already on top of the overbearing, protective boyfriend that he is.

Just another layer of complete anal retentive boyfriend, almost to the point you’re like, “I don’t like playing this guy, he’s so protective” but it is definitely a line that he’s got to draw in the sand with the lab and the team knowing that he is not only the boyfriend of this girl who is putting her life on the line. Every day we go into the lab, he’s also in charge of the rest of the team. So, it’s just another layer of stress on an already stressful guy.”

On if his promotion will cause tension with the rest of the team:
Emma: “Yes
Kyle: I would say Camille (Allison Scagliotti) because…
Emma: She has aspirations to be [lab director]
Kyle: So yeah, so Camille and Cameron are both vying for this position or Camille wanted the position and Cameron didn’t even bat an eye at the position. Maggie turns to Cameron to take over as second in command and Camille is not happy with that. It all kind of stems out of a decision that comes out of Camille’s mouth from a quote that was bestowed upon her by Ivy and now her tensions for Ivy run even hotter because she does have the position she wants in the lab because of this girl now.”

On Ivy:
Emma: “Well, the real question is can we trust Ivy or can we not? Is she connected with Stinger, how much did she know about what’s happening? Is she working with him or is she genuinely wanting a relationship with Kirsten?

I think that is what everybody is trying to figure out. Each character for themselves and everybody stands somewhere slightly different on it. For Kirsten, she really wants to be able to trust Ivy and to have a relationship with her sister. She doesn’t have any other family, blood family, in her life, so she takes the leap and starts to develop a relationship with her. Ivy also develops a relationship with someone else (cough) Linus (cough), everyone is trying to figure out where she stands.”

On the season premiere twist:
Emma: “It might be paranoia, no one knows where it comes from, if it leads to anything, if it was someone hacking in? Did Kirsten really see it, did she not? Is she imagining it? It’s just a great mystery. And it leads to Cameron worrying about if the Stitch affected her, do we need to run more tests, we need to figure it out.”
