BeautifulBallad Reviews Jupiter Ascending

Warner Brothers’s new movie Jupiter Ascending, starring Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Douglas Booth and Eddie Redmayne, hits theaters this Friday, February 6. Despite the name, there is nothing ascending about it.

The movie follows Jupiter (Kunis), a girl who lives a boring life on Earth until she is targeted by a Tyrant (Redmayne) from another planet. With the help of Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered hunter, it is now up to them to stop the tyrant from killing her, and taking claim of Earth.

Based on the trailer, the story appeared interesting and it definitely had a good cast filled with actors I generally enjoy. However, the final product was a bust. The story had several plot holes and felt very rushed. The ideas were there, but they were not executed well. The casting was strong; however, the actors had nothing to work with. It felt like they were in the movie because they had to, not because the though the role was a challenging or interesting one.

The one highlight of the movie was the costumes, they were fantastic. From the royal dresses to the soldier’s armor, the outfits were extremely detailed and looked great on screen.

For those who do want to see the movie, I would suggest waiting until it comes out on DVD or Video on Demand. It is not worth paying for a movie ticket to see it unless of course you enjoy leaving a movie knowing you just wasted your money and time.
