What If The Plan Changes

What If paves the way for a new kind of romantic comedy, where unrealistic becomes realistic and the couple is one you may well know in real life. Directed by Michael Dowse, it tells the story of a man and a woman trying to remain “just friends”, whilst the woman struggles with her existing relationship.
One of the best things about the film is the journey of the relationship between the two leads. Everything seems to fall into place for Wallace, played by Daniel Radcliffe, and Chantry, played by Zoe Kazan. There was no rush for either to make a bold move or try and ruin an already stable friendship by adding romance into the mix. This is due to script, which was written by Elan Mastai . The script allowed the characters to develop on their own instead of forcing them into over-the-top, unimaginative situations.
In his first comedy and modern role, Radcliffe solidifies his place in the entertainment industry. His witty and sarcastic portrayal of Wallace allows the audience to easily root for him to become more than a friend to Chantry. Kazan’s awkward portrayal of animator Chantry is adorable and brings a breath of fresh air to the stereotypical rom-com leading lady.
Adam Driver and Megan Park are also great additions to the cast. They play over the top characters struggling to find their own version of love but ones you can’t help but cheer for.
The quick banter between Radcliffe and Kazan, as well as Radcliffe and Driver’s dry personalities make this film so enjoyable. The film is entertaining, charming, and an all around good time.
