Bailee Madison sat down with Teen Vogue to talk about her guest starring role on The Fosters. Bailee plays Maia Mitchell’s half-sister on the hit ABC Family show.

In the interview, she talks people mistaking her and Maia, her future plans, opening a restaurant, and so much more. Highlights can be found below.

On people mistaking her and Maia: “It was crazy because Maia and I had gone back and forth on Twitter a year before the show. She would write me telling me a girl came up to her hyperventilating because she thought she was Maxine from Wizards, and she thanked her on my behalf.

Then I’d be like, ‘No joke, I was just in Catalina and girls were screaming at me because they loved you in Teen Beach Movie, and I also thanked them on your behalf.’ When they told us we were playing sisters, I was jumping for joy.”

On her plans for the future: “If it was my choice, I’d want to do a little bit of everything. I stress my mom out because there’s at least one day a week where I walk in and I’m like, ‘OK, so let’s start designing clothes. I feel like this is what we need to do.’ She’s like, ‘Bailee, one step at a time.’

I love the behind-the-scenes work, especially as I’m growing older. I truly enjoy the craft of directing and digesting the material and coming up with new moments and backgrounds for these characters. I would love to get to explore the directing side and definitely the writing side. I feel like if I sat down and wrote, it would be really fun and exciting.”

On wanting to open her own restaurant: “I hope I get to do a little bit of everything. The menu would be comfort food. If you came over to my house, it’s like chicken pot pies, mashed potatoes, and caramelized crystal walnuts and strawberries and goat cheese. It would be Southern, good, and then we’d throw a salad in there to keep it healthy. It’s just the best kind of food.”
