And It Begins

The Young Adult book series by Richelle Mead, Vampire Academy, is becoming a movie! In 2010, Preger Entertainment acquired the rights to the film and in the past week have finally moved forward in the production process.

This past Monday, December 17, the official Facebook page, for the movie, announced Dan Waters has written a script for the movie. One of the producers, Don Murphy, told the VA fanbase “Dan has written a brilliant screenplay for VAMPIRE ACADEMY. Smart and funny, clever and really a great read – it is going to make a terrific film.”

Yesterday, December 19, the page  revealed more information saying Mean Girls director and Dan’s brother, Mark Waters, would be directing the movie. And, casting for the film has begun.

For those who have no idea what the book series is about and think the series is just like every other Vampire story out there, I can tell you it is not. This series is not based around a love triangle or romance, but a friendship, a bond, between two girls.

The synopsis for the book can be found under the jump. I love this series and the spin-off series!

I am very excited to see who they cast in this movie. I really hope they stick to the ages of the characters. That is my only request for this film!

Synopsis:

“St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school–it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess.

They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s–the very place where they’re most in danger. Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi–the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires–make Lissa one of them forever.”
