BB Exclusive: Emma Watson Discusses Playing Belle During The Press Conference For Beauty & The Beast

March 16, 2017 - Author: admin

Emma Watson recently opened up about playing Belle in the live action version of Beauty And The Beast during the Los Angeles press conference. Highlights from the chat are below.

On playing Belle: “I mean, it’s really remarkable to play someone that I’m almost sure had an influence on the woman that I have become. I think the first time I saw Paige O’Hara sing “Belle (Reprise)”, it’s kind of the I want song of all I want songs. And I just immediately resonated with her.

I mean, I was so young I didn’t even know what I was tapping into but there was something about that spirit, there was something about that energy that I just knew she was my champion. And I think when I knew I was taking on this role, I wanted to make sure that I was championing that same spirit, those same values, that same young woman that made me a part of who I am today.”

On her version of Belle differs from the animated version: “I love that in our version Belle is not only kind of awed and doesn’t fit in, and you see her reading, and you see her not really a part of the community. In our film she’s actually an activist within her own community. She’s teaching other young girls who are part of the village to read, and moments like that where you could see her expanding beyond just her own little world and trying to kind of grow it, I loved that, and yeah, that was amazing to get to do.”

On advice for outsiders: “…I would say for anyone that feels like an outsider in their environment, there is a big, wide world out there with so many different people with diverse opinions and perspectives and interests, and go out there and find your tribe, go find your kindred spirits, and they do exist, they don’t necessarily come easily. Pursue the things that you love and that you’re really passionate about. They’ll be there. But don’t give up. They are there.”

Beauty And The Beast opens in theaters on March 17!

BB Exclusive: Josh Gad & Luke Evans Discuss LeFou & Gaston At The Beauty and the Beast Press Conference

March 14, 2017 - Author: admin

Luke Evans and Josh Gad recently discussed playing Gaston and LeFou while at the Los Angeles press conference for their new movie, Beauty And The Beast. The two discussed wanting the audience to establish a relationship with Gaston to the pressures of playing such iconic characters.

Luke on wanting the audience to establish a relationship with Gaston: “I just think a villain shouldn’t start out as the bad guy. A villain should end up being the bad guy, and I think with Gaston, outwardly, to a lot of people in that village, he is the hero.

He’s a bit of a stud, you know. He’s got the hair, he’s got the looks, he’s always impeccably dressed, not a bad singing voice. He’s got a great pal who makes everybody support him and sing about him. And I wanted the audience to – in a way, I just thought, let’s make them like him a little bit first, so that when the cracks start to appear, which they do very subtly, even from the door slam, you know, there’s something inside of him that he’s like, I’m not used to this, this isn’t how it goes, you know, this is not what she’s supposed to be doing.”

Josh on the pressure of playing an iconic Disney character: “I remember first getting the call, and I immediately flashed back to being a kid. I was 10 years old, it was 1991, and I saw the movie in a small theater in south Florida, and I remember that the response was something I had never seen before, which was audiences applauding after these animated characters were singing these songs. It was very unusual. Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid and Aladdin. I cannot tell how important that was. So I got nauseous.

I was like how am I going to bring a song like “Gaston” to life? And I went into my office and I started singing it, and I literally started choking up, because you cut to like yourself as a kid, you think back to yourself as a kid, you’re like, oh my god, I’m doing this, like I’m doing this for real, and I’m going to be the version that a lot of kids are going to see. And that was such a thrill. And my kids walked into the office and were so tickled that Daddy was singing this song that they know so well, and I thought to myself, this is going to work, this is going to work, we’re going to work at it but we’re going to make it our own.”

Beyond’s Burkely Duffield Chats the Show, his Character and More with BeautifulBallad

January 2, 2017 - Author: admin

Freeform’s newest series Beyond was released in its entirety today, January 2. The show stars Burkely Duffield as Holden, a young man who wakes from a coma after 12 years to find that he now has superhuman powers.

We had the amazing opportunity to sit down and chat with Burkely about the new show, his character Holden, doing his own stunts and so much more. Highlights can be found below.

On why he wanted to be a part of Beyond: “Right off the bat, reading the script. It was very well written and, as I mentioned before, I always loved this sort of idea growing up where this is a character really discovering these abilities he has and it’s really fun storyline where you see this character grow up in front of your eyes and that is a really big driving part of our show.”

On his character Holden: “He wakes up out of coma after 12 years of being asleep and has to come to terms with this whole new world around him because he doesn’t recognize anything. His family and friends have changed, his entire city has changed and he feels like he is in a completely different place now. He also has these telekinetic abilities now that allow him to manipulate the world around him.”

On playing a character with superhuman abilities:“I have always idolized the sci-fi genre where their superhuman abilities or something that is extraordinary that people are in touch with. To be able to embody a character like that was a fun challenge to take on and me and the whole team of talented writers and directors had a lot of fun honing into what that really meant to create this character.”

You can find the rest of our interview with the star under the jump. Beyond is now available to watch in its entirety online, but if you would rather watch it one episode at a time, the show will hold its two hour premiere tonight, January 2 on Freeform!
