ADVANCE PREVIEW: Superman & Lois Mid-Season Return Packs Quite the Punch

Tonight, May 18, Superman & Lois returns from it’s mid-season hiatus with a brand new episode and fans are in for the quite the jam packed punch. Titled, “Broken Trust”, the episode will find Jordan (Alex Garfin) still trying to understand his Kryptonian powers as the Smallville football team prepares to take on Metropolis. Whilst all of this is going on for the younger Kent generaton, Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) is still trying to unravel the real reason why Morgan Edge is in Smallville when she receives some help from Wolé Parks’ “The Stranger”.

This episode will continue adding new layers to the overall storylines featured this season. The focus is very heavily on Jordan and his inability to control his powers. We see how this inability affects him, his relationship with Jonathan and his relationship with his dad. But instead of focusing on teen angst to propel this storyline, the writers instead focus on the family’s need to want to help him and how the family is going to help Jordan become accustomed to his new powers. The theme of family is very prominent in this show and I love that the writers have chosen to steer away from the typical teen drama found on most shows and instead focus on the family.

Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) and Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) are featured in the episode, but they play more secondary roles in the episode. The main focus is on Jordan with a little bit of Lois’ sleuthing thrown in. However, I am intrigued to see if we get more from Jonathan in the remaining part of the season or in Season 2. I feel like his character has kind of taken a backseat, so I would like to see him start getting his own storyline as well.

My only other gripe with the episode, and it has been my gripe all season, is there is not enough Clark and Lois scenes. One of my favorite parts of the comics is when these two characters are working together and, yes I know they are still working together as they raise their sons, but I wish there was more scenes between just the two of them. In this episode, we watch as Lois continues her journey to uncover the real reason why Morgan Edge is in town and some interesting clues unfold. However, I feel like her storyline is completely separate from Clark’s and the boys’ storyline. Hopefully, as we get closer to the end of the season my wish will come true.

For those who have not watched the series yet, I highly recommend you do. With five episodes in, you have enough time to catch up so you know what is going on. For those who have been watching, you are in for a real treat tonight, especially in the second half of the episode!
