INTERVIEW: Meghann Fahy Talks her New Series, The Bold Type w/ BB

Tonight, July 11, Freeform will debut its new series, The Bold Type. Based on the life of Joanna Coles, the series follows three girls as they try to pursue their dreams in New York City.

Meghann Fahy took time out of her schedule to talk with us about her new show, her character, Sutton and so much more. You can check out our full interview below.

On the show and her character, Sutton:
“Sutton is a low level assistant right now, her story is more about figuring out what she is passionate about exploring. Kat and Jane already have the jobs they want to have in the building, so she is the one who thinks, “I love working at the magazine, but I don’t totally love what my responsibilities are”. That has been cool to explore and I think that’ll be really cool to see her assert herself and take a big risk. And hopefully, get a big reward.”

On her relationships with Katie and Aisha:
“I have to level with you, it’s amazing. It’s so real. I’ve experienced a lot of female friendships in my life, but, especially as it applies to this show, what we are putting in each episode is what we are experiencing in real life. I think the chemistry we have, the three of us, is really important to the success of the show. It’s natural. What’s exciting about putting these types of female friendships on TV, especially the Freeform audience which is a lot of young women, is saying, “Hey, you can do this. You can have what you want, be who you want to be, and you can do it while being happy for other people and building up other people” and I am so excited to put that on TV.”

On what drew her to the show:

“It seemed like a very real, natural, grounded way of speaking and that is actually refreshing in a script. I thought, ‘Oh wow, this makes sense. This doesn’t seem tightened or unauthentic do to me’. It was very natural, so I was excited about that and it has continued throughout this process.”

The Bold Type is a must see, so make sure to check it out tonight. And, tomorrow, July 12, check back here for the rest of our interview with Meghann.
