BB Exclusive: Andi Mack’s Joshua Rush Talks the Show, his Character & More w/ BB

BeautifulBallad had the wonderful opportunity to chat with Joshua Rush about his new Disney Channel show, Andi Mack. Joshua plays one of Andi’s best friends, Cyrus in the new Disney Channel series.

In our interview, we chat with Joshua about the show, his character Cyrus, filming in Salt Lake City, his dream role and so much more. Highlights can be found below.

On his new show, Andi Mack: “Andi is just your average everyday girl until her sister comes home and drops a huge bombshell on Andi. SPOILER ALERT: She is not actually her sister, but her mother!”

On his character Cyrus: “He is one of Andi’s best friends, along with Buffy. He is a very quirky, sensitive guy. He is the type of guy you would want to have as your best friend. Cyrus is very similar to me.”

On the chemistry between the cast: “It’s very rare. I have been in the business for a very long time and it is very rare to have a cast that is so incredibly close as we are on Andi Mack. It has been an absolute joy to work with everyone and it has been really amazing.”

What is a typical day like for you on the set of Andi Mack: “Sofia [Wylie] and I live in the same apartment building so I would get up and we would end up driving right next to each to the studio or wherever we were shooting that day. We would get there, get breakfast where we would meet up with Peyton [Elizabeth Lee] and Asher [Angel], and then we would get changed into our wardrobe. Then head to hair and make-up, where Asher and I would generally get kicked out for being too loud. Then on to shoot our first scene of the day.”

You can check out the rest of our interview under the jump. Andi Mack will hold its one hour premiere TONIGHT, April 7! Make sure to tune in.

What was it like shooting in Salt Lake City: “It was so amazing. I loved it. I am an avid skier, so is Asher and we weren’t allowed to ski during shooting, but it was amazing to get a chance to spend some time there. I loved the city, I loved the people. Everyone there is so nice. It was a total joy to work in Salt Lake.”

On visiting Olympic Park: “The Olympic Park was so awesome. We got to watch the Olympic ski jumpers jump off these massive jumps. It was so awesome to watch them. It was definitely one of the more fun days we had on set.”

On if they did any other fun trips while filming: “We went to a couple different places, but the place we most often went to was Chipotle. After a long shooting day we would always go to Chipotle together.”

On how this show differs from other Disney Channel shows: “It’s a real coming of age story, which is something really special for Disney. It is also the first show Disney Channel has had in a long time to be serialized in that each episode ends with a cliff hanger and the next episode comes right after it.”

On being a fan of Disney Channel before landing the role:Sonny with a Chance was one of the shows that really made me want to pursue acting. I was living in Los Angeles and I was already pursing it, but Sonny with a Chance made me feel like this is what I want to do with my life. Hands down, that’s it.”

On what drew you most to this role: “It is so different than a lot of what we see on Disney Channel. It is so real and it was incredible to behold a show like Andi Mack and it made me want to be a part of it.”

On his dream role: “I want to play James Bond. Let me just tell you, I have had the dream of playing James Bond forever. It was my answer 9 years ago when I was asked the same question. I want to meet Daniel Craig, I want to know how he got the part and I want to figure out how to take it from him.”

On what about James Bond makes it his dream role: “The cars, the gadgets, the spying. It is so cool. I would definitely have to hit the gym some more, but I think I could make a few sacrifices.”

On why fans should watch Andi Mack:Andi Mack is the coolest show on Disney Channel right now. It is real and I think people are really going to be blown away by the revelations that happen on the show.”
