REVIEW: Shadowhunters Season 2 Starts with a Bang

Shadowhunters will premiere its second season on Freeform, tonight, January 2. “The Guilty Blood” kicks off right where the Season 1 left- with a bang.

In “The Guilty Blood”, we find Jace (Dominic Sherwood) questioning his father, Valentine’s (Alan Van Sprang) tactics, while Clary (Katherine McNamara) and the gang are doing everything they can to find Jace and bring him home. With the introduction of Victor Aldertree, Clary, Alec, and Izzy find that he may not be the only one standing in their way from bringing Jace home.

The interaction between Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) and Alec (Matthew Daddario) is a definite highlight of the return episode. Alec has come a long way since he was first introduced in Season 1, but in this episode, we see that he still has a tendency to fall into his old stubborn ways. With Magnus by his side he has someone to help clear his head. Magnus proves in this episode that he is just what Alec needs when times get tough.

My only wish for this episode was that we saw more from Izzy (Emeraude Toubia). She plays more of a secondary role compared to the others, my fingers are crossed that they will give her a more focus as the season goes on.

The premiere does a great job setting up the second season and definitely raises the stakes. This episode will leave you wanting more. And if this episode is anything to go by, the second season will be much darker, more action packed and filled with a ton of tension, good and bad. I can’t wait!!

Let us know what you think of the premiere after it airs tonight!
