Supergirl Possibly Moving Production to Vancouver?

Supergirl could be joining its DC Comics cohorts in Vancouver for Season 2. The show’s renewal is currently up in the air at CBS due to budgeting and, now, Warner Bros. TV is considering trimming some of the show’s cost by moving it to Vancouver.

Deadline is reporting, “There have been exploratory conversations with the cast during the past couple of weeks, and, while I hear many are not thrilled about the potential move, it is a realistic possibility as the series is looking to reduce costs.”

Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and The Flash already film in the Canadian city and it is cheaper to film there, so the move makes sense. However, I understand the need for budget cuts, but I feel like if they move production cities it is going to change the mood of the show.

Supergirl shot its first season entirely in Los Angeles and since it is mostly sunny there all year around the show had a more light and happy vibe to it. Vancouver has actual seasons, which help create a darker mood, which works for show’s like Arrow. I don’t see it really working for Supergirl, but that is just me.

Right now, WB TV is exploring its options. My guess is if it moves to the CW, it will also move to Vancouver. We should hear more regarding its renewal status later this month when CBS holds its upfront in New York City…hopefully!
