Find A Way Out

The Maze Runner has not fallen into the Young Adult trap. Unlike other book to movie adaptations released in the last few years where the focus is on a relationship or character, this one is purely story-driven.

The Maze Runner follows Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) who wakes to find himself inside a
maze without a way out. Having no memory how he got there, Thomas must work with the other boys living in the maze to find a way to escape. Despite a slow start, once the foundation for the story is set the movie and intensity take off. Fans of the book may be a little disappointed as certain things are left out but what was subtracted doesn’t affect the overall story.

O’Brien is strong as the level-headed Thomas. He did especially well with expressing Thomas’ dire need to leave the maze. His performance proves that he has what it takes to be the face of this franchise. The other actors in the film were nice picks, as well. Teresa was the only character that could have been left out and the story would have progressed without any hiccups.

After seeing the movie, I left the theater wanting more, which is a first. I need to know what happens next and hope there will be a second installment. The Maze Runner is an entertaining, intense film that many will enjoy. Definitely a flick worth catching this weekend.
