Changed My Ways

More information regarding Demi Lovato’s interview with Robin Roberts has become available. She spoke with Roberts about everything from her battle with bulimia to self medicating.

On her eating disorder starting at a young age: “I was compulsively overeating when I was eight years old. So, I guess, for the past 10 years I’ve had a really unhealthy relationship with food.”

On why she cut: “It was a way of expressing my own shame, of myself, on my own body. I was matching the inside to the outside. And there were some times where my emotions were just so built up, I didn’t know what to do. The only way that I could get instant gratification was through an immediate release on myself.”

Demi admitted to “purging” while on tour and losing her voice from doing it. And she also spoke briefly about the physical altercation with backup dancer, B Girl Shorty, saying she felt “horrible” because B Girl was her “friend”.

Demi also said her little sister, Madison, was her inspiration through treament, “A picture of my little sister, on my little bulletin board, was one of the main things that kept me going. I just kept thinking, ‘OK, set this example for your little sister.”

This whole interview is going to break my heart. I’m so proud of Demi for speaking out about her struggles.

Thanks @PinkJuney!
